The Department of Entomology's research and extension activities are conducted primarily through the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center and the College of Agriculture of the LSU campus. Undergraduate instruction is a function of the College of Agriculture and graduate instruction is coordinated by the Graduate School of the LSU campus. Extension activities and responsibilities are assigned to the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service faculty in the department. The department is assigned 33,044 square feet of floor space in the Life Sciences Building and Life Sciences Annex. Other departments housed in the Life Sciences Building are: Departments of Biological Sciences, and Plant Pathology and Crop Physiology. There is a laboratory facility of 3,480 square feet located about 15 miles from the campus which has access to agricultural and pasture land. In addition, the department has access to the 18 branch stations of the Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station located throughout the state. Louisiana's subtropical climate permits insects and other pests to be active virtually all year. A diversity of warm temperate insect pests, and managed conservation areas and nature preserves provide ideal teaching and research opportunities. The research interests of the current faculty are divided into the following broad areas: |
-
Behavior
